The Rad Zone celebrates 30 years

SAULT STE. MARIE - The Rad Zone will be celebrating 30 years of skate and music in Sault Ste Marie on October 11 at The Rockstar Bar.

The party will feature Montreal’s Ripcordz and support from Jack Spades and Destroilet.

Vans Shoes is sponsoring the party with some great swag.

Tickets for the party will be $13 in advance and $18 at the door, and will available at The Rad Zone and The Algonquin Hotel front desk.

They will be made available at Hardcore Homecoming featuring Random Killing and then be sent to the retail sites a few days later.

The Rad Zone was established by Paul "Munk" Muncaster in 1984 here in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario Canada.

Originally known as Radical Records (housed on top of Bruce Street hill), it was also the first place that you could actually buy skateboards in the Sault.

Fully stocked with safety gear, skateboard decks, hardware, gear and accessories, and instrumental in bringing skateboarding to Sault Ste. Marie in the mid-late 80s and early 90s, The Rad Zone has matured into being known for the one stop shop for skaters and record collectors alike.

Paul is always on hand to ask questions and will gladly take down products and start up hunts to find what is wanted.

“I still remember working 'til 4 a.m. to have everything setup for our first day, Iggy's Lust For Life blasting on the new Nikko system, staring at the walls of punk stickers, heavy metal banners, t-shirts and records… all 16 x 20 feet it was amazing. Strung out that will anyone show up... well you did... for 30 years. Thanks to all for the support to keep indie music and skateboarding alive in the Soo for three decades,” reminisced Muncaster.

Now located in the Wellington Square Mall on Trunk Road, The Rad Zone has expanded to house Hole In The Wall Books.

This new and used book store features hundreds of golden finds ranging from sci-fi to fantasy to fiction to kids.

Also featured is The Rad Zone's Street Boutique, a clothing store centred on fashionable street wear for both men and women.

Still promoting amazing finds for vinyl and fully stocked skateboard equipment as well as a huge selection of both new and used video games, systems and accessories, The Rad Zone is still here and has no intention of leaving.
