The new event space at Mill Square is set to open its doors on June 1, 2015

If you are looking to plan a concert, wedding, community or corporate event in Sault Ste. Marie, the city’s newest performance and event space, The Machine Shop, offers the perfect venue for all of your entertainment needs.

With fantastically rich sound and sight-lines featuring sandstone walls, timbered ceilings and turn-of-the-century ironworks, the Machine Shop, originally built in 1899 by Industrialist Francis H. Clergue to develop and maintain machinery for the fledgling Lake Superior Pulp and Paper Company, will open its doors June 1, 2015 as one of Canada’s most unique performance venues hosting the best in the arts, music and events.

Intimate, grand and historically grounded, The Machine Shop - noted in a 1900 article in The Canadian Magazine as being one of the “most significant Romanesque Revival landmarks of industrial architecture in Canada” is now home to The Machine Shop venue for the arts, music and events.

The main venue boasts over 10,000 square feet of space, and is suited for a variety of functions, with sufficient room for a commercial kitchen, instruction area, and rehearsal and meeting space.

The building will be developing over 19,000 square feet of additional area into creative office spaces, also available for rent.

Located in the historic Canal District, The Machine Shop is the latest addition to the burgeoning arts and cultural hub located at the Mill Square Properties, which currently features Mill Market, Entomica, the Algoma Conservatory of Music, and Destination North, a living centre for culture, ecology and wilderness experience currently being developed by Science North and Yallowega Belanger Architecture on behalf of Riversedge Developments and the City of Sault Ste. Marie.

Restoration of the building is scheduled to begin shortly, with the first bookings at the space available beginning June 1, 2015.
