NEWS RELEASE

STORIES IN THE NORTH

*************************
Ever wanted to write a story and maybe even win a cash prize?

Stories in the North has just announced the theme of their 2nd Annual Short Story contest.

“Lost and found” is the theme of this year’s contest.

Think about all the ways things could be lost and found and you’re sure to come up with some ideas for a winning story.

The theme doesn’t have to be the main focus of your story but must be integral.

Stories will be judged with the theme in mind.

Your story can be any length up to 5000 words and any genre will be accepted.

As for who can enter, anyone living in Algoma for all or part of the year is eligible to enter.

There are two divisions; young writers, aged 18 and under or adults, aged 19 and over.

Members of the Stories in the North board are ineligible to enter.

Be sure to follow the submission rules.

Stories should be typed in Times New Roman 12 pt, double-spaced with one-inch margins.

Your title and page number should appear on every page.

Send four copies and one cover sheet with the story title and your name, address, phone and email on it.

Indicate “adult” or “young writer” and do NOT put your name on the story itself.

An entry fee of $5 should accompany each story with cheques payable to Stories in the North.

Stories should be mailed to:

Stories in the North Short Story Contest
c/o Box 369, Thessalon, Ontario P0R 1L0

Stories must be postmarked by May 15, 2014.

First prize in each category is $50, second is $30 and third is $20.

Entry to this contest includes release of first publication rights only for a winning story.

All other rights remain with the author.

All rights remain with the authors of stories which do not win.

Winners will be notified by email or mail and will then be announced on the Stories in the North website and Facebook page.

A judging panel has been selected to judge all entries.

Their decisions will be final.

Send questions to [email protected] with “Story Contest” in the subject line.

Also, be sure to follow Stories in the North online at www.storiesinthenorth.com and on Facebook and Twitter.
