The Six String Nation brings music and stories to Sudbury for the 2008 Northern Ontario Music and Film Awards and Conference
Sudbury, May 8, 2008 - Come and visit the Six String Nation in person this Friday afternoon and Saturday at the Radisson Hotel in Downtown Sudbury in the Networking Lounge during the 2008 Northern Ontario Music and Film Awards and Conference.
Take a picture, see how it’s made and learn about the images and stories that are built right into the Six String Nation guitar.
The Six String Nation is a movement based on a guitar that connects people from all regions of Canada through music and by sharing our stories.
Traditional, but not necessarily typical, Canadian icons, images and stories are built right into the guitar, which is made of more than 60 pieces that are significant aspects of history or culture from across the country.
For example, the guitar contains a piece of Wayne Gretzky’s hockey stick.
The Six String Nation is the brainchild of award-winning broadcaster Jowi Taylor, in collaboration with master luthier George Rizsanyi, who created the guitar at his workshop in Nova Scotia.
“People in diverse communities right across the country have richly fascinating stories to share, and too often we don’t hear them. The Six String Nation guitar is a way to put all kinds of stories at the fingertips of musicians and in the ears of listeners,” says Jowi Taylor.
The Six String Nation guitar came to life on Canada Day 2006 on Parliament Hill, where Jowi Taylor introduced the Six String Nation to the country.
The guitar now has taken on a life of its own, and Canadian stories and music is being shared between Canadian audiences and musicians.
A small portion of the list of musicians who have performed with the guitar, so far, includes: Colin James, Bruce Cockburn, Ron Sexmith, Feist, Jean-Francois Breau, Hawksley Workman, the Wailin' Jennies, Arianne Moffat, and many, many others.
