Soo Greyhounds don't want to be associated with a film about hockey players being made by internationally recognized Sault filmmaker Chris Pozzebon.

"It isn't that I think the film is a bad idea," Hounds General Manager Dave Torrie tells SooToday.com.

"It just wouldn't be fair to our players, their families or our organization to associate with something that portrays hockey players so inaccurately," Torrie says.

The Hounds have turned down a request from Pozzebon and producer Miguel Gauthier to shoot inside the Steelback Centre during an OHL game.

The script calls for the central character in the film to wear a red jersey similar to that worn by the Greyhounds.

Torrie says he will probably see the movie when it comes out and wishes Gauthier and Pozzebon all the best with it.

"But we have worked too hard to build and maintain a good reputation as role models in this community to be guilty by association," Torrie says.

Torrie knows the film Good Guys, the latest Gasfire Films project getting underway in the Sault this January, is a fictional account of a fictional minor league hockey player.

He know its a dark comedy not meant to be taken as documentary in any way.

"Some people might believe the kind of things that go on in that story are real," he says. "Can you imagine what would happen if someone who doesn't really know what goes on in our hockey organization watched something like that?" Torrie says.

According to Gauthier, there are scenes involving substance abuse by the lead character, a Junior A hockey star, as well as other things the Greyhound organization didn't want to be associated with.

"You have a lot of typical hockey players [in the film]," Gauthier told SooToday.com.

"We've kind of gone to extremes with them though," he said. "It's a dark comedy and not really meant to be taken seriously."

Except for the Greyhounds, Gauthier said the support for this and other GasFire Films being produced in the Sault has been very good.

GasFire Films is a production company of Saultites and former Saultites including Chris Nash, Chris Pozzebon and Miguel Gauthier.

Filming for one of their productions just wrapped up and they plan to begin shooting begin filming Good Guys in the third week of January.
