EWING, Doris Jean (TOWLE)

Posted

September 20, 1938 - September 29, 2015 - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Doris Jean Ewing on Tuesday, September 29, 2015. Left to celebrate her life are her husband of over 53 years, Robert Ewing, children Thomas (Keena), Shelagh (Denis Findlay) and Sandy (Jennifer) as well as three much adored grandchildren Sydney, Julia and Emily.   Special aunt to Ruth Parsad (Karam), great aunt to Raj and Devi Milligan (Sam) and great, great aunt to Ashvin and Prem.  Doris will also be missed by dearest friend Barbara Johnson (late Deric) and her family. Doris was the third daughter of Ernest and Jean Towle (Smith) of Woodstock, Ontario.  She is predeceased by both, as well as her sisters Janet Towle (late Bill Pocock) and Barbara Richardson (late Calvin). Educated as a teacher at McMaster University, Doris moved to Sault Ste. Marie in 1960 and quickly met, fell in love and married fellow teacher Robert.  Over the next fifty plus years, Doris impeccably and energetically played numerous roles of wife, mother, grandmother, friend, volunteer and confidante to many, giving selflessly and humbly to those people and organizations for whom she cared most.  Quick to laugh, Mom was never happier than when seated at a dinner table surrounded by family and friends. Our family would like to thank the physicians and nurses for their exceptional care and compassion over the past few days, not only for Doris, but the family as a whole.  As well, we would like to thank Dr. Sam Fratesi for the care that he has provided - her respect for and trust in him was a great comfort while she dealt with her health challenges. As Doris wished, a private family service was held and cremation has taken place.  Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Doris would be pleased if donations were directed to Willowgrove United Church, or to the charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre ( 492 Wellington St. E., Sault Ste. Marie, ON P6A 2L9 705-759-2522).
