VALIQUETTE, Stephen Royal

Posted

(July 15, 1956 – September 24, 2015) - It is with great sadness we announce the unexpected passing of Steve, at his home in Thessalon. “Eelhead”, as many called him, had been (in his own words) “rolling around this ball of mud for almost 60 years.” He’s going to be missed.

Steve worked hard, lived hard, played hard and loved deeply, even when you couldn’t always see it. Those he loved and left behind include his son, Adam Valiquette and daughter Melanie McLaughlin (Ianik) and his grandchildren Simon, Chance, Ashton, Jaydrien and Amabella. He also leaves his siblings, Pauline (Gerry) Clark, Denise (Chuck) McLean, Peter, Bridgette (Scott) McKay and (late) Noel.  In addition, Steve will be greatly missed by his many nieces and nephews who all have many memories of their special uncle. They include Shannon, Shayla (Neil), Ashleigh, Jenny (Chad), Courtney, Noella (Thomas), Justin, Brett, Ethan and Colt. He also leaves several aunts, uncles, cousins and many good friends.

Steve was a long-time car buff who said (as recent as a year ago) that he was going to restore cars when he grew up. In reality, he’d already done that and much more as he continued to operate the “scrapyard” started by his late father, Yvon.  Steve also supported his mother, (the late) Doris Valiquette in any way he could after his father’s death.

Steve’s many close friends often gathered at the scrapyard for nightly “safety meetings”. To honour him, we invite everyone to join in a special “safety meeting” in his honour. This Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, October 1 from 4 to 8 pm. at the Scrapyard (Boundary Rd., Thessalon) following a private family service. Please come and join us to share memories, condolences, food and refreshments.  Funeral arrangements entrusted to Beggs Funeral Home, Thessalon, Ontario.  www.beggsfh.com
