BERTHELET, Lucien (Lou)

Posted

Went to be with our Lord on July 9, 2015 at Victoria Hospital, London, Ontario in his 85th year. Beloved husband of Elizabeth "Betty" for 60 years. Loving father of the late Donald, Gail (Peter) and Nicole (Ken). Adoring "Papa" to Jasmin and Mitchell Stadnyk and Brooke and Danielle Vezina. Brother to Irene Gadal of Delhi, Ontario. Predeceased by his parents Exilda and Alfred, brothers Ovide, Charles and Lionel and sisters Jean, Sally, Florence, Angela and Georgina. He will be sadly missed by many nephews and nieces. Lou worked for the Royal Bank for 40 years, across three provinces and through twelve cities and towns. He was born and raised in Laurier, Manitoba and began his career in Russell, then Churchill, Langruth (where he met his wife), Lac du Bonnet, Kenora, Winnipeg, Flin Flon and Somerset. In Ontario he moved to Sturgeon Falls, Toronto (Head office) and then to Montreal (Head office). He chose to retire as bank manager of the main branch in Sault Ste. Marie. Retirement was spent as a snowbird in Arizona and Florida, then a recent move to Woodstock, Ontario. Lou loved sports and was an avid golfer. He also played baseball, curling, bridge, cribbage and was unbeatable at billiards. He belonged to many golf and curling clubs where he won numerous trophies over the years. He and Betty attended many Grey Cups and Briers. He loved watching his Grandson play football and was looking forward to seeing him play for the Western University Mustangs this fall, as well as attending his granddaughters soccer games in Woodstock. Lou volunteered on the Finance committee of many Churches and Hospitals and donated his time to the United Way, Kiwanis, Kinsmen, Elks and Chamber of Commerce in numerous communities. He loved singing and always had music playing. Lou lived life to the fullest and his witty sense of humour and infectious laughter will always be remembered. Friends may call at the Arthur Funeral Home& Cremation Centre on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 from 11:00 am until time of service at 1:00 pm.  Father Pat Woods officiating.
