It is with deep sorrow that the family announces that Wendy Wingrave (nee Burnett). Passed away surrounded by family and friends on Saturday, February 28th, 2015 at Espanola General Hospital in her 68th year, after a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrigs Disease). Very much loved, best friend and soul mate to Al Wingrave for 48 years. Loving mother to Tara Favretto and her husband Derek, and Chad Wingrave and his wife Angie. Devoted and ever so proud Grandmother to Kyle, Riley, Dayna and Payton. Loving sister and best friend to Judi Griffith and her husband Ron. Beloved aunt to Dave Wingrave and wife Chris, Steve Wingrave and wife Fiona, Kerri Crossgrove and husband Keith, and Jeffrey Griffith and wife Dani. Cherished daughter of Vern and Marion Burnett (predeceased) and step daughter to Margaret MacDonald-Burnett (predeceased). Dear sister to Brian and Don Burnett (predeceased).

From the first day of her diagnosis of ALS, Wendy was determined to live each day to the fullest. It took strength, courage, and perseverance to overcome many of the obstacles that life with ALS throws at you but with the help of friends and family, many of these challenges were conquered. How Wendy met these adversities head on and always with a smile and positive attitude was an inspiration to everyone that knew her.  As an avid lover of the outdoors, Wendy, Al and family enjoyed a life time of adventures on skis, dirt bikes, quads, canoes, kayaks and sailboats- exploring  lakes, rivers, and many back country roads and uncharted trails. From an early age Wendy enjoyed a variety of winter and summer sports, especially downhill skiing. Wendy’s favourite summer pastime was fishing and she would jump at any opportunity to go. In the fall, partridge hunting took center stage. The whole family, children, and grandchildren were always included in these outdoor experiences.  Many cherished memories are a result of nights spent sitting around a campfire recounting the many experiences shared together. Wendy always believed that family came first and everything else revolved around the family.

At Wendy’s request there will be no service or visitation. A celebration of Wendy’s life will be shared with friends and family over many campfires for years to come. Donations to the ALS Society would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home.
