Zygmunt 'Ziggy' Maliszewski

Passed away peacefully at the F.J. Davey Home, December 12, 2014.

Born, December 6, 1922, Osawa Gora, Bydgoszcz, Pomorze, Poland

Beloved husband of Janet Maliszewski. Predeceased by his parents, Franciszek and Weronica (nee Klawifer) Maliszewski, Bydgoszcz, Poland, sisters Theresa and Ursula of Frankfurt, Germany and his most precious grandson, Christian Gaitens , St. Louis, Missouri;  . 

Ziggy and Jenny raised five children:  Frank Maliszewski, Sault Ste Marie, Ontario; Jan Robinson (Ronald), Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario; Marlyn Kasten (Kim), Ayden, North Carolina; Ian Maliszewski, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario;  Veronica Carroll, (Beverly Dullaert), Victoria, B.C.  Loving Papa to Aaron (Cheri) Gaitens, St. Louis, Missouri;  Faye Guffey (Joshua), Los Angeles, California;  Michael Robinson, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario; Christopher Maliszewski (Grande Prairie, Alberta) and Jonah Dullaert Carroll, Victoria, B.C. Great Grandfather to Caleb and  Morgan Gaitens,  St. Louis, Missouri and Henry Guffey, Los Angeles, California.

Zygmunt embraced a full and hardworking steel-worker’s life (amongst many professions in his lifetime) and was highly respected and regarded by his peers for his honesty and integrity while employed at Algoma Steel for 35 years. Ziggy cherished his good health, family and the love of his life, his wife of 67years, Janet (Jenny) Maliszewski.

He passionately loved his family home on the shores of Lake George, Echo Bay that he shared with Janet. Ziggy was proud to have served his birthplace (Poland) during WWII and was a recipient of the British War Medal 1939-1945 having served with the 1st Polish Corps under British Command including his participation at the Battle of Monte Cassino in Italy. Thank you, Zygmunt (Dad) , we will remember.

Thank you to all of his care providers this past several years at the F. J. Davey Home on the 2nd Floor of Apple Orchard Wing (Krista, Jeff and Sandra). At Zygmunt’s request, no funeral or memorial service will take place. A private remembrance gathering will be announced at a later date.

He will be missed by family and friends. Rest in peace dear husband and Dad.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario would be most appreciated.
