Lawless, Evelyn

Posted

On Thursday, November 6, 2014, with sadness in our hearts, we said farewell to Evelyn Lawless, 71 years of age, a loving spouse, mother, friend and amazing woman. Surrounded by her family at her home in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Evelyn passed away gracefully and with dignity after a long battle with breast cancer. Evelyn was a woman with an irresistible zest for life, a loving wife for 35 years to Matt, a mother, nana, loyal friend to many and a generous supporter of the community. Matt and Evelyn were proprietors of Canadian Tire in Sault Ste. Marie between 1994 and 2012 and even after retirement still spend their summers and Thanksgivings at McCarrell Lake. They had previously lived in Meaford, Ont; Dauphin, MB; Victoria, BC and St. John's, NL but the Soo is the community they loved and where they made many lifelong friends.

She had a passion for the things that mattered most to her. At the centre of her passion was - as all who knew her, would know - golf. She lived and breathed the great game and amsued herself by following the best and most talented golfers in the world (except for Phil!) and from golf there arose many of her friendships, forged for a lifetime. Her second passion was for Mahjong and any other game that involved a deck of cards.

Leaving to mourn, husband Matt; daughter Colleen (Paul); daughter Michelle (Garnet); son Corey (Nadine) and grandchildren, Frances, Simon, Taylor, Conor, Mark, Nolan, Aron and extended family, Mitch, Judy, Tyler and Jordan Berard and Rae, Carey, Scott, Linda and Theo Smith. Predeceased by her mother Winnifred Ward (nee Giggs), father John Ward and eight siblings.
A private family celebration took place in Niagara-on-the-Lake on Saturday, November 8, 2014. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made "In Memory of Evelyn Lawless"  to the Lions Foundation of Canada, Dog Guides to the attention of Sandy Turney, Executive Director. Contact information can be found online at www.dogguides.com. We will miss you desperately Evelyn/Mom/Nana/Miss Evie. See you on the 19th hole!
