Fortin, John Francis

Posted

(September 17, 1950 – October 18, 2014) - It is with deep sadness that we announce that John lost his brave two year battle with cancer October 18, 2014 in the Palliative Care Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital, with family by his side. He is survived by his cherished wife Kanuengnit (Nid) and his loving and devoted sons, Chris and Ken John (KJ). Also survived by his mother Fern McDermott, siblings Dayle Doran (Chris), Terrie Greco (late Ernie), Mark Fortin, Lois Brooks (Dave) and Chris Fortin (Donna). He is pre-deceased by his father John Fortin. Fondly remembered by his nephews, aunts and cousins. John will also be sadly missed by his global community of friends. John graduated from University of Guelph with a BSc in 1976 and an MSc in 1980. Always one to follow his dreams, he left Canada in 1993 and went on to teach in the International School System in Papua New Guinea, Australia, Japan, China and Laos. To our delight, he returned home to Canada in 2013 and settled in Saint John, NB. John was accomplished at many things, but had a passion for teaching, chess and tennis, but especially for his family. He made an impact on many people and will be greatly missed. At John’s request, there will be a private family gathering only.
