BRIGLIO, Gaspare

Posted

Passed away very gently and sweetly into God’s loving arms at the Davey Home on Tuesday, July 29 at the age of 95. He has now gone to join his cherished and much loved wife Palma whom he says has been waiting for him (Sempre diceva “Mamata m’aspetta.”) Loving father of Benito (Paula) of Toronto and Ada Bruno (Frank) of Sault Ste. Marie.  Devoted grandfather of Christine Bruno of Ottawa, Meredith Briglio (Michael Douglas) of Toronto, Joseph Bruno (Julia Sage) of Ottawa and Whitney Briglio of Toronto.  Adoring great grandfather of Noah Bruno Decayette and Geoffrey Douglas.  Beloved son of the late Luigi and Anna Briglio. Son-in-law of the late Pasquale and Antonia Caruso. Dear brother of the late Francesco (late Mariuzza) of Italy,  late Edoardo (late Emilia) of Sault Ste. Marie, late Emilio (late Emma) of Italy, the late Nicola (Cesira) of Montreal, Chicchina Coccimiglio, (Michele) of Burnaby, Matilde Caruso (late Ernesto) of Sault Ste. Marie.  Brother-in-law of the late Alessandro Caruso (late Palmina) of Sault Ste. Marie, late Francesco Caruso (late Francesca), late Ortenzia Sdao (late Francesco) and Christina Spina (late Gabriele) all of Italy, Pietruzza Gagliardi (late Mario) of Sault Ste. Marie, Giuseppina Mazzarello (Ernesto) of Ottawa, Carmela Bossio (Geniale) of Italy.  He will be remembered with great affection by many wonderful nieces and nephews for his beautiful heart. Gaspare strongly believed that “Getting older is not a given.  It is an absolute privilege” and definitely tried to live his long life this way.  He loved to make things grow, especially tomatoes, potatoes, peas, beans and fave.  He tended his garden with great love and passion and reaped the harvest of his labour with much joy. Many years ago his tomatoes were so big they were even featured in the Sault Star.  He greatly valued education and ensured his children received one.  He loved to pass on his wisdom through wonderful stories about his life.  He refused to give up and his indomitable and valiant spirit will continue to be an inspiration to all of us.  Friends may call at the Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road 705-945-7758) on Friday, August 1st from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Veronica’s Church (559 Douglas Street) on Saturday, August 2nd at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Ron Ambeault officiating.  Entombment at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum.  Memorial donations made to St. Veronica Parish, Davey Home Walkway to Health or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.   A huge bouquet of thanks to the loving staff of the 2nd floor of the Davey Home for their dedicated and wonderful care. A very special thank you to Commare Lena, CCAC and We Care (especially Michelle).  Your continuous support and affection for dad will always be remembered.  A heartfelt thank you to Dr. M.
