Jenkins, Dr. Charles Oliver

On Thursday, November 19th, Dr. Oliver Jenkins died suddenly following a relapse of leukaemia at the Sault Area Hospital in the company of loved ones. Born in Cambridge, U.K. March 14, 1939, son of Romilly James Heald Jenkins and Juliette Celine Haegler. Oliver is survived by his partner Barbara Oliphant Connell and her children Hilary and Ian, his children Julia (Greg Shubel), David, Philip and Mark (Rebecca Cowan) and their mother Jadwiga. He is remembered fondly by his grandchildren Jordan Walker Jenkins, Adam Shubel, Amelia Jenkins and Susanna Jenkins. He is also survived by his niece Catherine, nephew Nicholas and his sister-in-law Maxine Jenkins, all in the U.K.. He is predeceased by his brother Sir Michael Romilly Jenkins. Dr. Jenkins attended medical school at Cambridge University in England and specialized in Internal Medicine for his residency. He came to Canada in 1969 to work on neurological research at Queen's University moving to Sault Ste. Marie in 1976 after learning about the Group Health Centre in a medical journal. Dr. Jenkins focused much of his work on neurology, worked with the stroke prevention clinic at the hospital and sat on committees for the Ontario Stroke Network. He also volunteered as a board member for the Ken Brown Recovery Home. Oliver enjoyed philosophical discussions, classic film, music and literature, attending Astronomy Club, and quiet time with Barbara and their dog Brolly. A celebration of Oliver's life will be held at the Algoma Conservatory of Music, 75 Huron Street, at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 29th. Friends are invited to join the family from 1:30 pm to enjoy selections performed by the Algoma Conservatory musicians. An afternoon English tea will follow the formal part of the celebration.
