Pee Wee Wildcats capture Hocktoberfest tournament

The Sault’s Dunrite Peewee ‘BB’ Wildcats went undefeated through six games in winning the 2nd Annual Hocktoberfest Tournament held this past weekend in Windsor, Ontario.

Lydia Murray and Mackenzie Nadeau had the goals and Taylor Smith earned the shutout as the Wildcats defeated the Lakeshore Lightning 2-0 in Sunday’s championship final.

Sunday’s earlier semi-final action saw the Sault advance following a 10-3 victory over the Southern USA Flyers. Murray had the hat trick while Danielle Watling added a pair of goals. Lauren Rimmer, Darcee McCaig, Megan Turcotte, Jana Headrick, and Nadeau added single markers in the win.

The Sault opened round robin play on Friday with a pair of shutout victories, defeating the Vaughan Flames 3-0 and Detroit’s Victory Honda 14-0.

Briley Gregory, Murray and McCaig each scored in the victory over Vaughan while Jennifer King registered the shutout. Turcotte fired four goals while McCaig and Murray each had two in the victory over the Southern Flyers. Singles were added by Logan Carrick, Casie King, Kaylee Hill, Rimmer, Nadeau, and Gregory while Smith earned the shutout.

Saturday’s preliminary action saw two more victories as the Sault defeated Windsor Wildcats 6-0 and Lakeshore Lightning 8-1.

Goals from McCaig, Nadeau, Turcotte, Murray, Watling and Rimmer helped the Sault in the victory over the hometown Windsor squad with Smith earning the shutout. Murray fired three goals and Jamie Lynn Anich added a pair, while Hali Studens, Erin Gillespie, Watling, and McCaig added singles in the roundrobin victory over Lakeshore.

Next action for the Dunrite Wildcat squad will be the 13th Annual Ice Breaker Cup to be held in the Sault November 5-8.
